Hello, my name is Amy Wyatt and I use she/her pronouns. As the owner of Vital Flow, I am a Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT) and Certified Hoop Dance Coach dedicated to improving the lives of others through therapeutic touch, wellness education and invitations for dance, play, and movement.
I obtained my training to become a LMT from Parkland College in Champaign, Illinois and have been licensed since February 2019. I specialize in working high tension areas and providing an overall sense of relaxation and rejuvenation. As your massage therapist, I commit to making you feel at ease and supported in speaking up so that your massage is customized to suit your needs, preferences, and comfort level. Your satisfaction is extremely important to me because I truly believe that when we feel good, we do good.
In addition to massage, I am certified as a Hoop Dance Coach which allows me to inspire and empower others to find freedom of expression outside and inside a hula hoop. No prior experience is necessary to begin this practice and there is no age maximum! I was 35 when I purchased my first hoop and couldn't keep it going around my waist a single time. Not a single time! But with practice and dedication, I am able to do tricks I never thought I was capable of and in April 2020, I completed Deanne Love's Hoop Love Coach training so that I can share my passion for hula hooping, the health it promotes, and the joy it brings.
With a background in social work, I have nearly twenty years of experience working with a vast array of people. Before pursuing massage therapy, I worked at non-profit organizations supporting adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This experience allowed me to see how beneficial massage can be for those who have sensory processing conditions by offering commonly sought-after sensory input that is safe and appropriate. Working with people in a way that promotes something positive in the world has always been at the heart of what I have wanted to to do with my life. What I love about massage therapy is its ability to help all sorts of people in a variety of ways.
Promoting wellness is truly a passion of mine. In all the time I've spent working with people, I can see that chronic stress is an epidemic causing so many health complications for too many people of all ages. I am one of those people. With an autoimmune condition that has caused my body to attack healthy hair follicles, I began losing my hair a few years ago which is why now you'll commonly see me rocking a hat. While it has been a struggle for a multitude of reasons, it has taught me about the influence of trauma and how ongoing mental and emotional stress affects our physical bodies, which I can now share with others. When I talk about the importance of self-care practices and mindfulness training, I can do so knowing what's possible when we stop listening to our bodies and only listen to the negative voices we hear inside our head (or from others); when we push ourselves beyond our limits, allowing stress to take over our lives. It is my belief that people are often unknowingly addicted to stress, thus perpetuating more of it. Our bodies hold onto this tension in odd places and in strange ways. Therapeutic massage and stretching or moving freely with a hula hoop to your favorite music are great ways to relieve stress and to keep you connected to your body. I am here to help you with all of that.
I am originally from Urbana and have spent most of my life in this community. I currently reside in Champaign with my two children and two cats. I feel blessed to be where I am and to be doing what I love and look forward to having the opportunity to work with you.
